Rainfall
Why collect rainfall data?
The amount and timing of rainfall (precipitation) is one of the most important natural phenomena that we can monitor for understanding our watershed's ecosystems, natural resources, and signs of climate change.
You can participate!
You can help us to observe precipitation patterns in the different sub-regions of our watershed. We have started using and contributing to a national database called CoCoRaHSCoCoRaHS is an acronym for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network. CoCoRaHS is a non-profit, community-based network of volunteers working together to measure and map precipitation (rain, hail and snow). Sonoma Ecology Center is using this system to monitor rainfall in the Sonoma Valley Watershed.

If you'd like to contribute to the rainfall database, you may join CoCoRAHS, obtain a standardized raingauge and training, get your very own station assigned, and start entering your data! If you need help you can contact the Central Coast CoCoRAHS Coordinators, either Nolan at nolan@atmos.colostate.edu or Debbie at dclarksoncasn1@yahoo.com.
