Commentary by SEC:
This postcard shows the old Verano Avenue bridge, which was just upstream from the current one (2009). Notice how this bridge has two differently designed spans. The right span was the original, built in 1889. During winter storms in 1906, Sonoma Creek shifted its course to the east, washing out the bank and leaving one end of the bridge hanging in midair. Later that year, the left span was added to make the bridge useable again.
